Universidad de Zamboanga tops November 2009 Nursing Licensure Examination

Universidad de Zamboanga (UZ) leads in the percentage result for the recent Nursing Licensure examination taken last November 2009 among schools in Zamboanga City. UZ ranked number six (6) nationwide among schools with 30 to 99 examinees. 87.50% or 77 UZ graduates who took the exam for the first time passed. There are 4 passers out of  6 retakers from UZ. Their overall performance as a Nursing school for this year is 86.17%.

Among those schools with 100 or more examinees, Ateneo de Zamboanga University garnered the top spot in Zamboanga with their 70.25% overall performance.

Cine Chabacano Film Directors Guild organized

A group of young Zamboangueno television and film enthusiasts formally convened last December 29, 2009 at the Grand Astoria Hotel to form the Chabacano Film Directors Guild (CFDG). The organization, spearheaded by former TV and concert director ROGELIO 'Gerky' VALESCO, JR. prepares for a full length movie project this March to be directed by Zamboangueno director Sheron Dayoc.

Present during the said gathering is Lilit Reyes, an Palanca awardee for screenplay.

ADZU BSIT students finalists to the 3rd Animahenasyon Competition

Students from Ateneo de Zamboanga University taking BS in Information Technology major in Multimedia and Animation were recently recognized as finalists to the Animahenasyon Competition held last Novemeber 25 - 28, 2009 at the Gateway Mall, Araneta Center in Metro Manila.

The Zamboangaueño finalists are:
  • Cedrick S. Zabala  for Mayari (Short Film Student Category)
  • Tennyl Dhem Canlas for Tenyl's Demo Reel (TVC/ OBB/ Demo Reel Category)
  • Jervin Yap and BSIT 4 students for Guatsinggo (.(Short Film Student Category)

 

 
25,000 Walk The Talk to Kick off Week of Peace 2009 Festival

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Civil society groups and the local city government have jointly called the public to rally behind the promotion of culture of peace and multi-cultural understanding and respect amid the hostilities and atrocities that are plaguing the island of Mindanao.

The call came as stakeholders here launched this year’s Mindanao Week of Peace celebration with a grand parade on Thursday morning.

“We hope to renew our commitment to peace as we think of all the sufferings of the world and history of Mindanao,” Fr.  Fr. Angel C. Calvo, President of Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ), told the more than 25,000 people who  joined the grand parade and the opening ceremony at the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.
